The Chickpea or Kabuli Chana is an annual plant belonging to the family Fabaceae. The chickpea has been widely used all over the globe for thousands of years. They are high in fiber and protein. This crop grows well under cool weather conditions.

Known to be the earliest cultivated legumes, Chickpeas plant remains were found in the Middle East that are around 7000 years old. It originated in the Mediterranean basin, probably in the Turkish region near Syria. It is mainly cultivated in the Middle East, Mediterranean Region and India.  It is the third most cultivated pulse as a legume crop in the whole world. They are sold in fresh, canned, frozen and dried forms and they can be used in various dishes.
